Useful Information

How challenging is the Luxury Everest Base Camp trek?

The Luxury Everest Base Camp Trek presents a significant challenge primarily due to the high altitudes encountered along the route. While the trail itself generally follows well-marked paths and yak trails, the increasing elevation renders it challenging. The trek culminates at Kalapathar, reaching a maximum altitude of 5545m/18,193ft, with Gorekshep serving as the highest overnight stop at 5140m/16,865ft.

Prepare for daily treks averaging 6-7 hours, during which you'll carry your backpack containing essentials such as valuables, water, extra fleece, and snacks. The trek's difficulty is accentuated by its duration and elevation gain, as it extends to heights exceeding 5500m, where renowned mountaineering Base Camps are situated. Additionally, be ready to spend a night at an elevation surpassing 5000m in Gorekshep, adding to the challenge of acclimatization.

Is previous trekking experience necessary for participation?

While previous trekking experience is beneficial, it is not a requirement to join this trip. However, participants should be moderately fit, enjoy walking, and be adaptable to high altitude conditions. It's essential for all travelers to be in good physical health to fully engage in the trip activities. We strongly recommend preparing for the trip at least three months in advance by engaging in regular exercises such as hiking, running, or gym workouts. The better prepared you are physically, the more enjoyable your trekking experience will be. Rest assured, our trip itinerary has been meticulously designed to incorporate ample time for acclimatization, ensuring a safe and rewarding journey for all participants.

What is the optimal season for the Everest Luxury Lodge trek?

The prime seasons for trekking in the Everest region are Autumn (mid-September to late November) and Spring (early March to mid-May). During these periods, you can expect favorable weather conditions conducive to trekking. As you ascend higher each day, temperatures gradually decrease. Nights can be chilly, ranging from -10°C to 5°C, while days are typically sunny and warm, with temperatures between 10°C to 20°C. Mornings are typically clear, with clouds forming in the afternoon and dissipating by nightfall.

Is travel insurance necessary?

Obtaining travel insurance is not only mandatory but also highly recommended for any adventurous journey in Nepal. We strongly advise all our clients to secure travel insurance that includes coverage for emergency helicopter evacuation, especially in cases of Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS) or other emergencies in high altitudes where alternative transportation options are limited. Prior to finalizing your insurance policy, carefully review its terms and coverage to ensure it meets your needs. It's essential to carry proof of your insurance during your holiday and provide a copy to your next of kin. It's crucial that your insurance policy offers sufficient protection and covers all activities planned during your trip.

Will there be water available for drinking?

To minimize the environmental impact of single-use plastic bottles, we provide hot-boiled water for drinking purposes throughout our treks. We encourage you to bring a reusable water bottle or Thermos capable of holding hot water, which our guides will happily refill during meal times, especially at breakfast and dinner.

While bottled water is available at lodges along the route, prices may vary from USD 1 to USD 3 as we ascend in altitude. Alternatively, you may opt to bring water purification tablets or a filtration device for your convenience.

Baggage Guidelines and Weight Limits

For your convenience, each client will be provided with an individual duffel bag to pack their gear. Our duffel bags have an approximate capacity of 80 liters, and we kindly request that clients ensure their duffel bag weight remains under 12 kgs.

The baggage allowance for domestic airlines in Nepal is a total of 15 kg (10 kgs for the duffel bag and 5 kgs for the backpack), but we are able to offer additional baggage allowance upon request. To adhere to porter weight restrictions, we ask clients to keep their duffel bag weight under 12 kgs, allowing a maximum of 25 kgs weight per porter.

During the trek, clients are only required to carry a day pack containing essentials such as a water bottle, camera, sunscreen, and spare jacket. This lighter load ensures a more enjoyable trekking experience. Upon arrival in Kathmandu, we will provide clients with a duffel bag, and any additional luggage or items not needed during the trek can be left at the hotel in Kathmandu.
